Located near Basildon in Essex, Hazelwood Cat Rescue Centre is a charity and ‘not for profit’ organisation devoted to rescuing and helping to rehome unwanted, sick and mistreated cats. Hazelwood is based at Rene's licenced boarding cattery and many of Rene's boarding customers own cats that were rescued and rehomed by Hazelwood Cat Rescue.
A group of enthusiastic part-time volunteers make up the members of Hazelwood Cat Rescue Centre. Many of them have experience working with other local animal rescue services and charities. Like most charities, Hazelwood Cat Rescue relies upon volunteers to help run it, as well as needing donations to carry on with its rescue and rehoming work.
The charity normally has a selection of both young and older cats that are available for adoption. Sometimes they may also have kittens available. Their comprehensive website has full information and details, and interested parties are asked to get in touch with them.

5 star cattery
Comment by Pauline McFarlane, 30th December 2014
My cat was a rescue in 2006 and she regularly goes to Hazelwood Cattery when I go on holiday, once or twice a year.
It really is a 5 star cattery, Graham and Rene give so much love to the cats, it is their whole life. My cat is everything to me and it means so much that I can go away with peace of mind, knowing that she will be cared for and loved as she is in her own home.
I would be reluctant to leave her anywhere else, she is always happy to be home when she is returned to me (they give a collection and delivery service also) and is not at all stressed.
She is a very timid cat who usually does not have any time for anyone other than me, but it's different when she's with Graham and Rene. They both deserve a medal for everything they do for the abandoned cats and those who come into their care briefly while the owners go away.
